I can’t believe I’ve had this post sitting in a folder for months. I really thought I shared it much earlier, but better late than never. After all, while plaid has been a fall trend for years, it’s actually a great pattern to wear during the entire cold season. It’s truly a classic and those always look great so here are 3 ways to wear plaid if you’re looking for some ideas.
As a Plaid Shirt
Plaid shirts have been around for years. A plaid shirt has a casual feel so it’s perfect to throw over a more formal piece to dress it down (like wearing a sequin top with a plaid shirt) or to go with the casual vibe like I did here. Since it’s a classic print, it’s easy to pair with other prints like florals.
If it speaks to you, I’m wearing:
Plaid shirt, similar here, here and here
Floral leggings, similar here, here and here
Green belt, similar here, here and here
Grey boots, similar here, here and here
As a Scarf
A plaid scarf is the easiest way to wear plaid and provides endless styling possibilities. You can let it be the only print in your look like I did here so that it ends up being the statement piece. You could wear it with contrasting colors for a punchier look or with matching ones for a more monochromatic outfit.
If it speaks to you, I’m wearing:
Red plaid scarf, similar here, here and here
Red pants, similar here, here and here
Burgundy sweater, similar here, here and here
Burgundy over-the-knee boots, similar here, here and here
As a Pair of Pants
At first this might seem like the most challenging way to wear plaid, but I promise that choosing plaid pants in a more neutral color like black, grey or tan will make this a breath. I picked up this pair in the beginning of fall and I’m actually surprised by how many looks a pair of plaid pants works well with. I think that I could have reached for this pair almost every day if I didn’t like to vary my outfits. I would say that the key here is to try wearing them even if it looks like they don’t go with the rest of your outfit and you might find yourself being pleasantly surprised.
If it speaks to you, I’m wearing:
Plaid pants, similar here, here and here
Blue sweater, similar here, here and here
Blue boots, similar here, here and here
Thank you for reading. Be kind. Be you.

January 16, 2019 at 9:38 pmWonderful photos. You look beautiful in all of these outfits. These are all great options for wearing plaid in winter. I often wear plaid scarves. A plaid shirt is a classic- another thing I like to wear often. Plaid pants are a great option as well, I have a pair I stole from hubby. I think I also wrote about wearing plaid in winter, it’s one of my favourite patterns.

January 17, 2019 at 3:29 pmHi Kath
Despite being a trend I don’t have this pattern on my clothes oh! I’m reminded to see your scarf that I have a dress that looks like this pattern. I admit I like pants in plaid print but in red color, from your examples what I liked the most was the blouse, I loved this outfit seems to me to be the most daring in the mix of patterns.

January 18, 2019 at 1:50 amAll 3 ways of wearing plaid are beautiful! I really love how you wore the belt with the plaid top. My go-to for plaid is usually a scarf but I think I’m going to look for some plaid pants. The pair you have with the stripe on the side are really nice, and I love the pop of blue with them too!
