Sequins for Everyday Wear

In the culture I grew up in, there’s a lot of emphasis placed on dressing professionally and practically (even for children). It’s important to look your best so sparkly materials like sequins are really just for children and even then, only for special occasions. Things have changed a bit since then, but my parents were brought up this way so this was the way they brought me up too.

For a long time I was afraid to wear sparkly pieces in my everyday life, but not anymore. I’ve discovered that I really like to wear sequins (perhaps I’m making up for lost time) and now that I’ve been wearing them for some years, I’ve also found that they’re surprisingly easy to dress down for everyday wear.

One of the easiest ways to dress down a sequin skirt for instance, is by pairing it with a casual sweater. This is what I did in this outfit where I paired a super sparkly skirt with a check-print sweater. I kept the rest of the outfit simple with olive green over-the-knee boots and a black trench coat to let the skirt be the focal point.
