Plaid is a print that has a way of toning down dressier items when paired with them. Throwing a plaid shirt over a dress works really well for every-day wear even with more formal dresses. I used it to that effect here with a black lace dress paired with over-the-knee boots to make it comfortable for the colder weather. It also helps to tone down the delicacy of items that have more feminine prints like pretty florals. This can be done by paring them with a pair of plaid pants or by adding a plaid shirt. It has the same effect on more formal fabrics like satin and sequins to create a chic combination for any occasion.
Thank you for reading. Be kind. Be you.

February 9, 2019 at 3:23 pmI do agree with you, a plaid shirt is a lovely item for dressing down a more feminine print or cut (such as that pretty lace dress you’re wearing). In that sense, a plaid shirt is much like a denim shirt, an universal item that looks great with everything and can be used for dressing down on daily basis. Another item that comes to my mind is a leather jacket.
You look very pretty! I really like this dress on you, and those OTK boots are adorable. The plaid shirt adds visual interest to this look. All in all, it is such a fantastic look. I wish you a fabulous weekend…and happy Valentine’s day.

February 9, 2019 at 9:05 pmWhat a great way to still be able to dress up when maybe you aren’t going somewhere so dressy! I love to be able to dress up but so many times the occasion just doesn’t quite call for it and this is a great solution! I love that you’ve paired it with the OTK boots in burgundy – it’s such a great not-black or brown color that goes with so much.

February 11, 2019 at 3:54 pmThe plaid shirt looks really good with the lace dress! I never thought about pairing plaid to dress down a dressier item, but that’s a really smart idea. I also love how all the different textures look together. The burgundy boots are beautiful too!

I have mixed feelings about plaid, in dark shades I dont like it, in red shades okay, but. But I love the over the knee boots over there.
