I’m not someone who wears a lot of pencil skirts. They are super flattering and elegant, but something about them just isn’t really me unless they have an edge. A perfect example is the skirt you see here. It’s a pencil skirt with the standard shape, but it’s faux leather which toughens it up substantially and makes it an item that I frequently reach for when I’m looking for a neutral fun skirt. Here it provides the final touch to a look that revolves around a cropped cobalt blue sweater and the faux fur jacket. You have to admit that they steal the show from the rest of the look a bit, but that’s just fine. Sometimes pieces are meant to melt into the background (not that the rest of the background was doing much melting when I took these photos just in case you took note of the frozen river behind me).
