Styling Hard to Wear Fall & Winter Trends - Polar Bear Style

Styling Hard to Wear Fall & Winter Trends

I’ve already shared a video and post with wearable fall and winter trends, so now it’s time for ones that are harder to style. I’m going to talk about the trend and give an example of an outfit.

Red Dresses

While a red dress makes a statement, being a dress, it’s pretty much a complete outfit so it’s actually not too hard to style. I like to wear red with animal prints, but here I styled it with neutral boots and earrings.

Tiger Prints

Animal prints in general have been on trend for a while (especially for the fall season). Being in the same color scheme as leopard print, tiger print can pretty much be worn in the same way. So if you’re struggling with tiger print, just pretend it’s leopard print when you style it.

Neon

Neon is definitely rather difficult to style, but I’ve always loved neon. It’s not for everyone though. A good way to style a neon item is to stick to only wearing one neon item in the outfit and keep the rest of the outfit more neutral.

Puff Sleeves

I actually used to think that puff sleeves weren’t very flattering, but now I think they’re actually pretty cool. If you’re not sure about puff sleeves, you can start with a tamer version like I’m wearing here.

Ruffles

I know one of the problems people have with ruffles is that they add volume. That’s why it’s often a good idea to pair items with ruffles with more skin-tight items in the rest of your outfit to balance that out.

Silver

I think metallics are often assumed to be less wearable because they make a statement. While the second part is true, I think they actually go with every color of the rainbow. I do tend to avoid wearing too many metallic items in one outfit though.

Colorful Plaid

Plaid is pretty much a fall staple at this point and I’ve shared many outfits with plaid shirts by now, but I thought I’d change things up a bit and share an outfit with plaid pants. A good way to style prints is with solid colors. If the solid colors are neutrals, that makes things even easier but that’s not a requirement 🙂

Shaggy Textured Jackets

I know some people hate shaggy textured jackets, but I love them. They’re just so cozy on a cold day that I can’t resist them. They do make more of a statement than plain jackets so they’re great for spicing up your outfit a bit.

Fringe

Fringe definitely does make a statement so it’s usually a good idea to stick to only one fringe item or to keep your fringe items farther apart.

Plaid Skirts

Plaid skirts aren’t seen that often outside of school uniforms, but I’ve always enjoyed them. Having that plaid skirt be in a neutral color makes it even easier to style. I even kept the rest of the outfit neutral here, but the plaid skirt would have gone well with brighter colors too.
