Birthday Dressing and Trivial Diversions

So my husband got me helium-filled balloons on my birthday. And the reason he got me helium-filled balloons on my birthday is because I asked for them. I realize that this is not a common request for an adult and I felt a bit like a twelve year old (especially when my excitement made me clap my hands when I saw them), but the heart wants what it wants. I wasn’t about to release them while taking photos (‘my precious’) so this is the result (after all, I hadn’t had a set in well over a decade). Plus they make for a nice prop so I might even have an excuse to get them in the future (other than on my next birthday of course).

You have probably picked up on the reason I was wearing a more formal dress (the whole birthday balloons thing from above). I love this dress because of the colors (black and red have a slightly gothic beauty to them), the style (empire waist is universally flattering), but mostly the ombre effect (because it’s ombre). Perhaps the wind liked it too as it was a lot nicer to my dress than to my hair and balloons.

Do you use your birthday as an excuse to get something trivial just for the fun of it?

Thank you for reading. Be kind. Be you.

If it speaks to you, I’m wearing:
