Slip dresses are such an easy piece to style once you get the hang of them. They are lovely on their own whether they have a pattern or not and regardless of the fabric and there are so many possibilities for things to wear with them. On its own, a slip dress is an elegant feminine affair, but it can be made very casual or very formal depending on the rest of the outfit. For instance, a formal blazer makes this look work appropriate while a jean jacket and running shoes tone it way down and turn it into comfy weekend wear (especially if you add a fun t-shirt underneath). They’re great in the summer worn over a tank top or a nice tee and in the winter worn over a long sleeved shirt or a sweater. They can be worn under t-shirts and sweaters too which makes them look like a completely different item.
A black, white or otherwise neutral colored dress is probably the easiest to style and gives you endless pairing options that won’t require much deliberation. I personally like to play with different textures which is why the chiffon dress went over the velvet top. I also like the dark color scheme which in this case allows the focus to be on said textures rather than on the contrasting colors. I echoed the navy with my over-the-knee boots and the look was done.
Thank you for reading. Be kind. Be you.

June 7, 2018 at 3:02 pmOh wow, I’m actually wearing a slip dress today! I’ve got a sheer black button-up shirt dress over it though, so definitely playing with layers today. I love how you mixed the velvet and the chiffon, but that would be way too warm here in Minnesota. ^_^
I feel like you and me need to meet up some day and go shopping together or something. That would be a lot of fun!

June 9, 2018 at 5:15 amYes, it’s a chiffon slip dress (often they’re silk or satin). Thank you so much for your comment Jane! 🙂

June 8, 2018 at 9:57 amHi Kath
I also love these slip dresses with t-shirts, and I also like the mix texture, but you give me lots of ideas on how to dress them, in a more casual or formal way. You are a princess of the modern times and the boots over the knee was the icing on the cake of the whole look. Have a wonderful weekend.
Kisses.
